I am Chan Ching-Yee Gloria , chairperson of the association. Our association has "Artist Bear Class"where traditional German techniques are taught. The techniques we follow is practiced by the famous German best artist Mrs. Helga Schepp. Graduates from our certificate course will have a certificate signed by the chairman of "Bear by Bear", the renown German teddy bear company.
Most people think that teddy bears are just toys. So they may wonder what is an "artist teddy bear"? There are artists, mostly in Europe and America, who are devoted to making teddy bears. They treat it as an art and are meticulous in every step of its making. They take great care in making a bear's face, its body and its clothes. They are concerned about details and may go to antique shops to find accessories for their bears, or even make their very own.
You may ask" Why only make bears and not other kinds of animals?" It is because in Europe there is a traditional of giving a teddy bear to a new born baby. The bear would be made of mohair, which is why it can last as long as a hundred years. It would become a baby's friend and companion, sharing its joy and sorrow. This explains why teddy bears have a special place in many people's heart.
